Welcome to Thobeka Backpackers, our rustic and authentic
African backpackers in Kosi Bay, South Africa where life is simple
and in harmony with nature. Set amongst lofty trees in a quiet
rural setting, our bush-style lodge is close to beautiful beaches,
gameparks and lakes lined with palm and mangrove forests.

Thobeka is a restful place to gather thoughts and prepare
travel plans for those travellers en-route north to Mozambique.
For those backpackers who have dust in their hair and clothes
from game drives in Kruger and car rides through Swaziland, well,
Kosi Bay is the perfect lagoon to wash away the dust, aches and
pains of days spent on the road. For those wishing to make
Thobeka a temporary destination we have Mozambican Safaris
where we take tents, cooking utensils, and you to Ponta for 4
days where we camp near the beach and experience bush
cooking, beaches and Mozambican hospitality! Alternatively we
can camp around the lakes on a 3 day hike.

Medical and education interns, students, volunteers and gap-year
students are most welcome to make Thobeka Backpackers a
semi-permanent base whilst embracing the rich and truly African
experience that the surrounding authenticity affords you.

We are a rustic self-catering backpacker crouched under large broad leafed trees. Each room is connected by wooden walkways that lead to
fully fitted kitchens, hot showers/toilets, a swimming pool and most important of all - the bar! You wont find a TV or a pool table but you will
find laid back sofas, hammocks and a bar with cold beers! The fish from Kosi Bay Mouth can be cooked over the open fire and in the winter
around the boma. We are a backpacker constructed in true African style run by experienced Africans, and owned by a dippy white woman!
Completing the welcome party are 2 staffies and 1 alsation. The staffies double up as the entertainment committee!
